Race the Sand
A downloadable tabletop RPG
Welcome to the End of All Things
For centuries, prophets have declared the end to be upon us, but this time it is true; the land, sea and everything between is crumbling away into the void like so much sand through the hourglass. The ultimate powers that sustain the universe grow bored and are leaving it. There is no artifact nor spell nor exotic knowledge that can hope to stop this catastrophe. But we may delay it. A reprieve, even temporary, might be achieved through the most daring of adventures and grand exploits. The day of ordinary heroes is over. Now it is time for the extraordinary.
Race the Sand is a rules-light collaborative storytelling game focused on tales of the mighty, the bizarre, the unexpected and the fantastic. Through their PCs, players are encouraged -- and required -- to undertake the most dangerous and unusual tasks and come up with the most captivating and innovative solutions to their dilemmas. When a PC takes action, the other players at the table use their influence over the story to turn normal events extraordinary. Enemy dragons become hungry, closed doors are found to be held fast by ogres, and perilous rope bridges suddenly catch fire. But astounding acts are also more difficult, and the universe is unimpressed by failure. Players and GMs alike must cooperate if they have any hope of survival.
Features and Characteristics:
- 2d6 (two six-sided dice) used for all actions.
- Simple action resolution system: all actions have an identical, low difficulty -- until the table conspires to make them more amazing (and harder).
- Collaborative atmosphere which puts all players, including the GM, on the same side and gives players at the table increased influence over the story.
- Quick, easy character creation in a class-less, no-equipment system.
- Setting-Agnostic: Easily adapted to tell stories about about anything, set anywhere, at any time.
Race the includes everything you need to play, except dice:
